Performance marketing and SEO for an interior design firm: 5,745 enquiries at ₹332 each

Elegante Interiors sells full-home interiors in Bengaluru — a ₹5L to ₹20L purchase that a homeowner takes six to fourteen weeks to decide on. Most interior design companies in India pay ₹1,200 to ₹2,500 for a Meta lead that goes cold. Across 37 months, 56 campaigns and 133 creatives, we held the blended cost of a qualified enquiry at ₹332 and built a 738-keyword search footprint underneath the paid engine.

The starting point

Interior design is a high-ticket, long-cycle sale, and most agencies run it like e-commerce

A homeowner planning a full-home interior does not fill a form and sign the same week. They shortlist four studios, visit two, and take six to fourteen weeks to commit. Run that category with one offer, one audience and one language, and cost per lead climbs every quarter. The category gets blamed. The setup is the problem.

Elegante Interiors arrived with the five problems every growing studio in a metro has:

  • Lead cost rising quarter on quarter with no diagnosis behind it
  • Every campaign built on the same "book a free consultation" offer
  • No Kannada presence in a market where a large share of high-intent buyers research and negotiate in Kannada
  • No way to separate a browser from a homeowner holding possession papers
  • A website with a keyword footprint but almost no organic demand capture

This is the point where performance marketing for interior design companies stops being a media-buying job and becomes an offer, creative and search problem at the same time.

Category norm is a working benchmark from accounts we audit in this vertical, not a published figure. Elegante numbers are from Meta Ads Manager.

Why is cost per lead so high for interior design companies in India? Because the offer does no work. Almost every studio runs the same "free consultation" hook to broad interest audiences in English. That reaches people who are curious, not people who are buying. On this account, the offer was rebuilt first: a single offer-led angle produced roughly a quarter of all leads at ₹191 on 13% of total spend, while generic consultation ads sat above ₹800.

The build

Four systems, rebuilt one quarter at a time

None of this was a single clever idea. It was 133 creatives tested against each other over 37 months, losing tests killed on a rule, winners rebuilt into new angles.

01

Offer engineering before audience engineering

We stopped writing ads for "interior design" and started writing ads for a decision. Comparison offers and value-add offers gave a homeowner a reason to respond this week instead of next quarter. The strongest offer-led angle became the highest-volume creative in the account. Gift-with-project offers pulled leads at ₹262 while generic consultation ads sat above ₹800.

02

Kannada-first, not Kannada-subtitled

We wrote, cast and shot native Kannada creative rather than adding subtitles to English video. The integrated Kannada and English structure became the second-largest lead source at 920 leads. Kannada WhatsApp engagement ads produced conversations at ₹14.71. Across all formats, vernacular creative drove 1,138 enquiries that English-only campaigns were never going to reach.

03

Video as the default, image as the exception

In the campaigns where format was the tested variable, video returned 1,454 leads at ₹327 and static image returned 24 leads at ₹633 — nearly double the cost for a rounding error of volume. Interiors is bought with the eyes. Thirty seconds walking through a finished home beats a rendered still every time.

04

Channel arbitrage into WhatsApp

We tested Click-to-WhatsApp against lead forms and found conversations at ₹13.80 against a blended ₹332 per enquiry — a 24× gap, with a warmer first touch because the homeowner is already typing. One utility-led hook drove 127 conversations on under ₹1,800 of spend.

What actually moves cost per lead for an interior design firm? Four things, in this order: the offer, the language, the format, and the channel. Audience targeting came fifth. The cheapest campaign in this account was not a smarter audience — it was a sharper offer running on cost-capped bidding against proven creative, at ₹119 per lead.

Creative & campaign strategy

133 ads, organised into angle families rather than one-off ideas

Every family ran against live budget. When a family stopped earning its cost, it was cut and the money moved to the families still compounding. That is the whole method.

  • Offer-led video — comparison and value-add offers that force a decision. Highest volume in the account and the cheapest at scale.
  • Vernacular integrated — native Kannada creative run alongside English inside one structure. Second-largest lead source.
  • Showcase video — completed-home walkthroughs and reveal films. Consistently under ₹400 per lead.
  • Audience-structure tests — custom audiences, lookalikes and cost caps layered on proven creative. Produced the lowest cost per lead at ₹119.
  • Luxury segment films — separate positioning for ₹15L+ projects. Higher cost, higher ticket, kept deliberately apart.
  • WhatsApp utility hooks — estimators and referral mechanics driving chat instead of forms. Cheapest first touch in the account.
  • Festive and seasonal — Diwali, Dussehra, Navaratri, New Year. Tested every year, killed every year above ₹800 per lead.

How much does killing losers matter? Fourteen campaigns ran above ₹800 per lead. Together they took 6.3% of total spend and returned 2% of leads before being shut off. Structured testing stayed near 3% of the account. The other 90.7% went to families already earning. Without that rule the blended cost per enquiry lands well above ₹500.

SEO for interior design companies in India: the layer that keeps working after the ads stop

Paid media buys demand. Search captures it. The homeowner typing "interior designers in Bangalore cost" at 11pm is further down the decision than anyone a cold ad reaches, and that traffic does not disappear when a budget pauses. This is why SEO for interior design firms is not a phase-two line item — it runs in parallel from month one.

What the search layer is built on

  • Technical foundation — crawlable project pages, clean heading hierarchy, compressed walkthrough imagery, Core Web Vitals held under threshold on mobile. This is the technical SEO that stops good content from being invisible.
  • Intent-mapped pages — separate pages for cost, process, style and locality queries instead of one bloated services page
  • Entity and schema markup — LocalBusiness, Service and FAQPage schema so search engines and language models can parse what the firm does and where it operates
  • Authority — 218 referring domains from design, real-estate and local publications
  • Answer-shaped content — direct, extractable answers to the questions homeowners actually type, formatted for AI Overviews and assistant retrieval
  • Local signalslocal SEO across Bengaluru locality queries, where most high-intent interior searches happen

The GEO finding worth acting on

Across ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode and Gemini, 84 pages from this domain are cited as sources — 60 in AI Mode alone.

60
24
Google AI ModeChatGPT, AI Overviews, Gemini

The content is being read by the models. The brand is not yet being named in the answers. The gap between being crawled and being recommended is the largest untapped channel in interior design search right now, and it is the current phase of work.

See how GEO works

Why should an interior design firm care about AI search? A homeowner asking ChatGPT "which interior designers in Bangalore are good for a 3BHK" gets three names, not ten blue links. Ranking on Google is no longer the whole job. Being the brand the model names is the new position, and almost no interior design firm in India is competing for it yet. Six moves for revenue growth marketing at any interior design firm

This account is specific to Bengaluru. The method is not. Here is what we would take into a studio in Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai or Delhi NCR on day one.

01

Build the offer before the audience

Replace "free consultation" with something a homeowner has to decide about. Comparison offers, utility hooks and gift-with-project offers halved cost per lead against generic consultation hooks.

02

Treat the local language as first-class creative

Not subtitles. Native script, native voice, native offer. In Bengaluru that produced 1,138 enquiries. The same logic holds for Telugu in Hyderabad, Marathi in Pune, Tamil in Chennai.

03

Put a WhatsApp path beside every lead form

Conversations came in at roughly a twenty-fourth of the blended cost of a form fill, with a warmer first exchange. For a considered purchase, a chat thread beats a form entry.

04

Separate luxury from mainstream at campaign level

A ₹15L+ buyer and a ₹5L buyer need different creative, different proof and different pricing language. Mixing them in one campaign raises cost per lead on both sides.

05

Kill on a rule, not a feeling

Fourteen losing campaigns were cut after taking 6.3% of spend. Set the threshold before the campaign launches, not after you have grown attached to it.

06

Run search and AI visibility in parallel, not after

Keyword footprint, schema and answer-shaped content compound quietly while paid media carries the near-term pipeline. Started late, it costs years you cannot buy back.

What does growth marketing for interior design firms actually mean? Owning the full path from first impression to signed project, not just the ad click. On this account that meant awareness content, offer-led paid media, vernacular creative, a WhatsApp channel, a 738-keyword search footprint and AI-answer visibility — all running against one number: cost per qualified enquiry.

Questions we get asked

SEO and performance marketing for interior design companies

What is a good cost per lead for an interior design company in India?

In Indian metros, Meta lead-form costs for interior design typically run ₹1,200 to ₹2,500 per lead, higher for luxury positioning. On the Elegante Interiors account we held a blended ₹332 per qualified enquiry across 37 months and ₹19.12 lakh of lead spend, with the best campaign at ₹191 and WhatsApp conversations at ₹13.80. The gap comes from offer design, vernacular creative and a strict kill rule — not from cheaper inventory.

Does SEO work for interior design firms, or is it all paid ads?

Both, doing different jobs. Paid media creates demand among people who were not searching yet, which is where volume comes from in a category with a long consideration cycle. SEO captures homeowners already researching cost, process and local studios, and that traffic keeps arriving when budgets pause. For Elegante we built a 738-keyword footprint with 218 referring domains alongside the paid engine. The question is not which one, it is what share of budget each gets at your stage.

Which ad creative works best for interior design?

Video, decisively. In the campaigns where format was the tested variable, video returned 1,454 leads at ₹327 each while static image returned 24 leads at ₹633. Full-home walkthroughs outperformed renders and stills. Carousels held a middle position at ₹372. The strongest single creative was not the most beautiful one, it was an offer-led video that gave homeowners a concrete reason to respond.

Is regional language advertising worth it for interior design?

On this account it was one of the two biggest levers. Native Kannada creative, written and shot in Kannada rather than subtitled, drove 1,138 enquiries including a 920-lead integrated campaign and WhatsApp conversations at ₹14.71. A large share of high-intent homeowners in Indian metros research and negotiate in their regional language, and English-only campaigns never reach them at competitive cost.

How long before performance marketing shows results for an interior studio?

Lead volume can appear within two to four weeks. Reliable unit economics take longer, because interiors carries a six-to-fourteen-week decision cycle and you need enough closed projects to know which sources actually convert. On this account the first genuinely efficient campaign landed in year one; the most efficient structures emerged in year two, once the creative library had enough tested angles to draw from.

What is GEO and why should an interior design brand care?

Generative Engine Optimisation is the work of getting your brand named and cited inside AI answers — ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity. Homeowners increasingly ask an assistant which studios to shortlist instead of scrolling results. On Elegante's domain, 84 pages are already cited as sources while the brand itself is not yet named in answers. Closing that gap is currently the cheapest visibility available in this category, because almost no interior design firm in India is competing for it.

What budget does an interior design firm need to start?

This account averaged roughly ₹55,000 per month in media across 37 months, scaling above that during peak periods. A studio starting from zero can validate offers meaningfully at ₹40,000 to ₹60,000 monthly, provided the budget sits on two or three angles rather than eight. The most common mistake is a small budget split across too many campaigns, which starves every one of them of the data needed to optimise.

Can these results be repeated for another interior design company?

The method repeats; the numbers depend on your city, ticket size and close rate. Cost per lead in Bengaluru is not cost per lead in Gurugram, and a studio with a 4% close rate needs a different lead cost than one closing at 12%. What transfers is the sequence: offer first, language second, format third, channel fourth, audience fifth, with search and AI visibility built in parallel from month one.
